Yoga will reduce cortisol levels, enhance mood, reduce and even eliminate anxiety and depression. Yeah, so when you’re chronically stressed (hello, 2020), your body may produce higher-than-normal levels of the stress hormone cortisol. It gets you into the present moment, out of your head and into your body. Maybe you’re nodding your head. Try Vinyasa or hot yoga for a vigorous cardio workout, Hatha or Ashtanga to maintain muscle and strength, and Yin or restorative yoga to relax. Totally. There's a somewhat common misconception that all weightlifters are gnarly masses of pure muscle with 400 pounds on their barbell (cue grunting sounds), but that's not at all true. Yoga may help promote weight loss, but getting it om is no guarantee that you’ll drop pounds. Yoga may also encourage mindfulness or help a person cultivate a healthier overall lifestyle. And really, this should be one of the goals when it comes to exercise, to improve and maintain overall health. The goals were always to get smaller, get skinnier, to lose weight and have less body fat.
