3.8.f -The most common example is when a spot, through wear, has become a dent in the baize and the two touching balls are each stopping the other from rolling into it. 2.12- ‘Indicates to the satisfaction of the Referee’ is particularly important when awarding penalty points etc. An obvious example is when a player is clearly aiming at the Blue, but hasn’t said so, and fouls the Yellow. A. A foul has been committed, therefore the opponent is awarded either 4 points or the value of the ball ‘on’. 2.5 - This wording is new from 2011, enlarging on what was there before, but fails to stipulate what should happen regarding any points scored by a non-striker while playing out of turn. Eight Ball is a call shot game played with a cue ball and fifteen object balls, numbered 1 through 15. One player must pocket balls of the group numbered 1 through 7 solid colors, while the other player has 9 thru 15 stripes.

This is normally done by pointing to the relevant ball(s) but, where the Cue Ball and touching ‘ball(s) on’ are clearly separate from all other balls, a verbal "Touching (both) ball(s)" would be equally acceptable. With the introduction of the spotted Pro-Cup balls, the words "which may have spots" has been added. In principle, any object ball on the table may be played and all six pockets are available. If the fifteenth ball was pocketed on the shot that scored the fourteenth ball, all fifteen balls are re-racked. While "cue ball fouls only" is the rule of play when a match is not presided over by a referee, a player should be aware that it will be considered a cue ball foul if during an attempt to jump, curve or masse the cue ball over or around an impeding numbered ball that is not a legal object ball, the impeding ball moves (regardless of whether it was moved by a hand, cue stick follow-through or bridge). If a player shoots while play is suspended by the referee, he loses the game.

To avoid this mistake, incorporate defensive strategies into your game. The referee shall inform the incoming player of ball-in-hand where specific game rules apply and should pick up the cue ball and hand it to the incoming player. All balls being respotted shall be spotted on their original spot. Likewise, the cue ball when being put in play behind the head string (cue ball in hand behind the head string), may not be placed directly on the head string; it must be behind it. Each player in turn plays all eight balls up the table, no score being allowed until a ball has touched the black ball, the object being to play as many balls as possible into the holes, the black ball counting double. The last remaining player, with their group of balls still on the table, is the winner. 3.If on the break shot, the breaker causes an object ball to jump off the table, it is a foul and the incoming player has cue ball in hand anywhere on the table. However the Cue Ball is played, the other ball will inevitably settle into the dent and it would obviously be unfair to Foul the Striker for it.

The Foul and a Miss Rule has been re-written for ease of clarity, but in essence remains the same, however many of the cross references have changed positions. Section 3 Rule 14 Foul and a Miss. Section 2 Rule 6 Stroke. A ball is forced off the table if it comes to rest other than on the bed of the table or in a pocket, or if it is picked up by the striker, 10 ball billiards rules or intentionally moved by hand whilst it is in play except as provided for in Section 3 Rule 14(h). This now means that however the ball is moved it will be IN HAND. Is this in hand? Referee calls a foul but is the ball now in hand for the incomingplayer. No further play may occur until a decision regarding a foul has been rendered and both players informed. Each player may call for one extension per rack. A. Scenario (a) Player moves the white by sliding it along within baulk and it didn’t leave the bed of the table. A. Scenario (b) Player picks the white up and places it in the exact same position. The non striker requests the balls to be replaced, which includes the cue-ball to the break off position.
